jasper and fenn 2.imageTo become the youngest brewery owners and head brewer in the state, you have to dream big. And for two homegrown Hamilton boys, reaching for the stars meant getting back to their roots. Fenn Nelson and Jasper Miller, friends since kindergarten, opened the five-barrel Higherground Brewing Co. in 2012. With their families, friends and community support centered in the hub of the Bitterroot Valley, teaming up to open a brewery after finishing college seemed like a logical choice. Higherground’s mainstay brews include a Scotch Ale, Dry Fly IPA, Clearwater Crystal Ale, Waist Deep Wheat Hefeweizen, Flash Flood Milk Stout and Base Camp Irish Red. The brewery also serves handmade wood-fired pizzas. While their plans for the future include bottling and distributing, for now you will have to join the locals and stop in for a pint.
